Do property managers need to be registered in NZ?
Not yet. On 24 March 2026 the government announced a light touch system to regulate residential property managers, but it still has to be turned into law and has no start date.
What happens next
Tenancy Services says further work will turn the proposals into law, depending on the government's priorities, and that more information will be shared when it is available.
What Latus does already
Owners' rent goes into a separate client account that holds only owners' money, never into Latus's business account.
